Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to read a medical history for a patient and correctly determine the most likely cause of death in order to properly inform public health entities (vital records and medical examiners/coroners).

2. Natural Death: What Forensic Science can teach us
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to summarize the signs and symptoms of common natural diseases that precede sudden death, and how to address potentially fatal complications to prevent a lethal outcome.

3. Medical & Forensic Toxicology: How overmedication can injure or kill
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to assess patients on multiple analgesic medications to recognize the risk factors that predispose them to accidental overdoses.

4. Suicide: the silent killer. How to recognize the signs, intervene, and counsel families.
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to identify the not-so- obvious signs of suicide, communicate effectively with medical examiners and coroners about their patients, and with families about their grief following a suicide.

5. Pediatric Injury & Death: Recognizing abuse and keeping kids safe
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to describe the household risks to children that can be addressed to prevent accidental deaths; and also be able to recognize injuries in children that are signs of neglect or abuse.

6. Medical Malpractice: How to avoid being sued and testify effectively if you are
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to describe the common complications of therapy that can lead to untimely death and how to talk to families when their error results in a death. They will also learn to testify effectively when deposed.

7. Trauma: Recognizing potentially lethal traumatic injuries in private practice
Upon completion of this lecture attendees should be able to assess patients with apparently minor traumatic injuries and determine whether those injuries could be lethal.
