Flu is a dangerous and potentially deadly virus that can result in serious complications for individuals living with chronic health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes. It is estimated that 31 percent of US adults age 50-64 years and 47 percent of those age 65 and older have at least one chronic health condition that increases their risk for influenza-related complications, including hospitalization, catastrophic disability, and even death.

Join the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) for a discussion about the impact of influenza on adults with chronic health conditions and the benefits of influenza vaccination. NFID Medical Director William Schaffner, MD will moderate the webinar discussion that will include presentations by Margot Savoy, MD, MPH, Temple University School of Medicine, representing the American Academy of Family Physicians, and Allen J. Taylor, MD, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, representing the American College of Cardiology.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
-Describe how the inflammatory response to influenza infection exacerbates chronic health conditions
-Discuss the role of influenza vaccination in risk-reduction for disease, disability, and death
-Define challenges and summarize recommendations for increasing influenza vaccination rates in adults with chronic health conditions

There is no fee to participate in this activity, but pre-registration is required.
