Description:
This course will focus on the impact of aging on lung symptoms and disease. Topics include the workup of cough and dyspnea in the elderly — addressing both pulmonary and cardiac etiologies — as well as specific lung pathologies including pneumonia, COPD, asthma, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease in this age group. We will examine “normal lung aging” and present the latest evidence on the impact of both indoor and outdoor air quality on lung health. Important considerations for oxygen and noninvasive ventilation will be addressed as well as risks and benefits of different lung surgeries for this age group. Sessions will be didactic but interactive with case reviews. A special session reviewing the benefits of “engaging with aging” will be presented.
